This really is a delicious recipe – perfect for the whole family and especially good for parties!
Our slow cooked pork shoulder is succulent and super tasty! It has a wow factor but is actually pretty simple to prepare. A slow cooker is perfect but if you don’t have one you can just pop it in a cast iron pan on low in the oven (with the lid on).
We recommend to serve 4-6 hungry people, get a 4kg pork shoulder joint.
For the rub:
- 1 x tsp mustard powder
- 1 x tsp onion powder
- 1 x tsp garlic powder
- 2 x tbsp smoked paprika
- 2 x tbsp muscavado sugar
- salt and pepper
- BBQ sauce
- 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
- 1/2 cup water
Rub your pork shoulder with the spice rub and set aside. Place 1/2 cup of apple cider vinegar and 1/2 cup of water in the bottom of the slow cooker. Place the pork shoulder in carefully and cook on low for around 6 hours.
Take the pork shoulder out and shred the meat with a fork.
Skim the fat from the juices in the bottom of the slow cooker and return the shredded meat with your favourite BBQ sauce. Cook on low for another 1/2 an hour until it is bubbling and reduced down a little.
Serve with your favourite sides! We love coleslaw, buns and chips. It is also great piled high on nachos with jalapenos and mexican cheese.
