Here at Cheale Meats we love our pork! It can be cooked in so many ways – stews, roasted, curried, slow-cooked! There are just so many. But one favourite is a quality pulled pork – flavoursome, meaty and rich! Pulled pork is a method of cooking pork slowly at low temperatures, allowing the meat to become tender enough so that it can be “pulled” apart easily. There are so many delicious recipes for pulled pork, but here is one that works beautifully – full of flavour and exceptionally juicy.
You can use a range of pork cuts for pulled pork – we recommend either the shoulder (bone in if possible) or the ribs:
3 lb boneless pork shoulder
2 onions, quartered
1 teaspoon salt (add more to taste)
1 teaspoon freshly ground pepper (add more to taste)
1 clove minced garlic or 1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
1 tbsp smoked paprika
2 tbsp brown or dark muscovado sugar
1 tbsp worcestershire sauce
1 tbsp tomato ketchup
1 teaspoon chilli flakes
1 teaspoon mustard powder
1 can of Coca Cola
Turn the oven on to 300F/ 150C
Place the onion quarters in the bottom of a deep oven tray or deep ovenproof pot.
Rub the pork with salt, pepper, garlic and paprika and then place on top of the onions.
Open the can of coke and pour over into the pot.
Add all the other ingredients and mix together so the pork is covered.
Place in the oven and leave to cook for about 4-5 hours. Check on the pork regularly and baste with the sauce every hour or so.
Take out the pork and leave to cool, and it should pull apart easily and taste absolutely delicious! Serve in bread rolls, wraps or pitta!
